As you may have seen on our Home Page, Sassy Family is now having 2 swaps in October. The first one will be on October 11 in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Baha'i Center and the second one will be October 25 in Nashville, TN at the Nashville Baha'i Center. It was totally unintentional to have both events at Baha'i Centers, but both locations have been incredibly accommodating. Sarah (our Bay Area coordinator) and myself are super excited for these events!
For the Nashville swap, the event is FREE because we can not charge at the venue. However, we are taking donations to cover our cost for advertising. Please consider making a small donation below of any amount.
Thanks for your support and look forward to see you at the swap!
The picture above is my new hometown of Nashville TN. Not bad, huh? I moved here in July and have been adjusting to the slower pace of life, compared to the Bay Area. I live close to an agricultural center, so I drive past horses on my way to work and see all kinds of animal life. I'm used to living in wild kingdom in the Bay, but in Nashville there are actual animals in this kingdom ;) My husband and daughter are adjusting very well, and it feels good to be close to family, although I miss my Bay Area family dearly.
In either case, here is what is going on with Sassy Family. My Bay Area coordinator, Sarah Scarbrough, and I are diligently working on securing locations for kid's clothing swaps in October in Oakland and Nashville. Oakland's swap will either be in the Maxwell Park or Fruitvale areas. Nashville's swap will either be in Nipper's Corner or the 12 South area. My hope is by September 20th, locations will be set. I know that people are very interested in the next ones, so we'll be working very hard to let everyone know. We can let you know that both swaps will also be Halloween costume swaps, so they will DEFINITELY be before 10/25!
As for the Sassy Family Craft Fair, we're are re-organizing that event and the hope is by February and April of 2015 we'll be able to have a fair in Nashville and the Bay Area, or 2 in the Bay area for 2015. Watch the website for more details.
Look forward to your continued support of Sassy Family events!
First of all, thanks so much to all that came to the Sassy Family Kid's Swap and Diaper Drive. We had a good crowd (with some return visitors) and a few, but very large, packages of diapers. This time we had visitors all the way until the end of the event, so we didn't lose a lot of parents to the dreaded nap time :) You can check out the pictures on our photo page. Apologies for the directions of some of the pics. When we figure out how to correct it, we'll get the pictures straight :)
In other news, before the swap ended, we made sure to secure Rock Paper Scissors for our next swap. Our next swap will be Saturday, April 5, 10AM-2PM at RPS in Oakland. So that gives you plenty of time to get your clothes and toys together. There will not be a diaper drive at the April 5 event.
Now it's time to get things together for our first craft fair of the year. Our hope is to have it for mid-March. Watch the webpage and this blog for updates on that :)
Again thank you, thank you, thank you to our loyal fans and look forward to seeing you all in the spring!
Happy Holidays! I found had a break after Sassy Family's last swap to relax and I totally forgot about this blog. Here's the latest going on with Sassy Family.
We're planning our next Kids clothing swap on January 18, 2014. We're going to have it again at Rock Paper Scissors in downtown Oakland. That venue proved to be the right place for what Sassy Family does. This time we are also having a diaper drive to benefit Help A Mother Out. To learn more about them, check out their site at http://www.helpamotherout.org. Our hope is that by March we will have swaps that will not only focus on kids, but their parents and other adults as well. Look out for it! For you'd like more info on the event
email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also in March 2014, we will be planning our next craft fair. We have had several new applicants so it looks like it will be a very good fair. Look forward to news on that soon!
For all of these events we are going to need volunteers. If you are interested, check out our volunteer page!
Hi everyone! Just a quick update on the Sassy Family Kids Clothing and Toy Swap! Our next swap will be Saturday October 12, starting at 10AM-2PM.
A couple of things have changed. First the location will be at Rock Paper Scissors Collective in Oakland. They are located on 2278 Telegraph Ave. Our hope is that with this space, we can create a regular venue for our swaps in the future.
Secondly, at the request of customers, we are going to take swap items before the start of the event. So for $3, you can drop your swap items early before 10AM, even the day before at Rock Paper Scissors and still participate in the swap. After 10AM, the cost will be the usual $5 with swap items and $8 without swap items.
So mark your calendars for October 12
Hope that you are having an excellent summer. We're getting geared up for our next events in September and we wanted to make you aware of them.
September 21 is our next craft fair. It will be at the Home of Truth Spiritual Center in Alameda, CA. We had such a great time at our last craft fair there that we decided to do it again! We hope to see you there.
If you are a past vendor or are interested in being a part of the Fall fair, please take note that the entry fee has been raised. The fee is now $30 which covers venue fees and advertising costs. If you'd like to apply, please visit our Application page and our FAQ's for more info.
As for the clothing swap, we are planning a swap in September, with the date and location to be announced. Look at our home page for more info in the coming weeks.
Just a quick hello to all the Sassy Family fans out there! Hope that you are enjoying your summer. Sassy Family has added a new page to the website, featuring pictures from all the past Sassy Family events. Click here or check out our Photos page to see them all!
It's been a few days, but we're finally able to give thanks to everyone who came out to the clothing swap. Parents from all over the East Bay came by, dropped off toys and clothes, and got new items in return. All the participants loved the venue and had great suggestions for our next swap. We also want to give thanks to the Home of Truth Spiritual Center in Alameda. It's a great facility and we look forward to doing more events there! Check out the pictures below and come out to the Sassy Family Craft Fair, May 18!
Hi all! Two more weeks until our Kid's Clothing and Toy Swap! We're super excited about the event, but we need help. We need volunteers to help set up tables, organize clothing, and break down everything at the end of the event. Interested? Apply on our Volunteer Page!
Great news! We have finalized our contract with a new facility for our next clothing swap! The next kid's clothing and toy swap will be on March 30, from 10-2PM, at the Home of Truth Spiritual Center in Alameda, CA. Look at the home page for more details on what to bring and NOT bring, locations, and more!
But don't fret, we will still have our Sassy Family Craft Fair. We are settling our contract to also have the craft fair at the Home of Truth in May. Once that is finalized, we'll post the dates and other info on the website. In the meantime, if you'd like to be a vendor, sign up on our vendor application page.
Hope to see you all on March 30!
